The Cape Fear region has every reason to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its local emergency medical services (EMS) teams. This year’s North Carolina EMS Competition showcased the skill, dedication, and teamwork of responders from across the state. Among the standout performers were the junior and senior Basic Life Support (BLS) teams from Tabor City and Whiteville. Their outstanding performances not only earned them recognition but also highlighted the strength of EMS services in our community.
Strong Performances by Tabor City and Whiteville Teams
Both the junior and senior BLS teams from Tabor City and Whiteville demonstrated exceptional knowledge and practical skills throughout the competition. The event tested participants on a variety of scenarios, including trauma care, cardiac emergencies, and patient assessment. These scenarios required quick thinking, precise execution, and effective communication under pressure. Their performances reflected hours of training and a deep commitment to serving their communities.

What the Competition Entailed
The NC EMS Competition is designed to challenge EMS providers at multiple levels. Participants face realistic simulations that mimic the conditions they encounter in the field. These include:
Trauma scenarios such as vehicle accidents and falls
Medical emergencies like heart attacks and strokes
Pediatric care requiring specialized knowledge
Team communication and leadership under stress
Each team is scored on accuracy, speed, and adherence to protocols. The competition encourages continuous learning and improvement, pushing responders to refine their skills and stay current with best practices.

Recognizing Leadership: Mac Smith Honored as Director of the Year
A special highlight of the event was the recognition of Mac Smith, who received the Director of the Year award. This honor reflects his outstanding leadership and dedication to advancing EMS services in the Cape Fear region.

The Importance of Local EMS Excellence
